InterfaceFLOR’s commitment to getting “Off Oil” is an integral part of our overall goal of Mission Zero®, our promise to eliminate any negative impact on the environment by the year 2020.
During Greenbuild 2009 we opened a dialogue about “Off Oil,” citing Oil as the elephant in the room that many businesses aren’t talking about. It’s the one material, the one resource, that’s inside almost everything we see and use including every finish in our business environments.
As the world’s largest manufacturer and marketer of commercial carpet tile we employ standards that are helping us get Off Oil. To date, globally we are using:
Less Energy – we’ve cut energy intensity over the past 13+ years by 43% and our use of energy from renewable sources has increased to 30%, including landfill gas, green electricity and on-site solar arrays.
Less Material – we’ve reduced the amount of fiber in our products by 19%, and at the same time increased durability and product life cycle.
Less Virgin Raw Materials – we’ve increased the amount of recycled and bio-based materials within our product by more than 36% by using more recycled raw materials including used broadloom carpet, carpet tile, and even products manufactured by our competitors.
We’ve also Diverted 200+ million pounds of carpet and carpet tile from the landfill, globally, since 1995.
Our ReEntry® 2.0 reclamation and recycling program allows us to Turn Backing into Backing and Fiber into Fiber moving us ever closer to a closed loop process that turns recycled ingredients into new, colorful and beautiful commercial carpet tiles.
These steps have also made us more efficient and helped to protect our materials, operations and supply chains. And, have resulted in a product offering with up to75% recycled content (with up to 35% of this being post-consumer content) from old carpet.
We appreciate your participation in our effort to get “Off Oil” and move closer to Mission Zero.
