Nomkhubulwane makes her final stop in Chicago at the Field Museum

June 17 – July 30
The Field Museum
North Terrace

If an elephant sculpture made in South Africa from used truck tires sitting on a sidewalk in Chicago can stimulate creative thinking among designers around the interaction between humans and the environment, what effect can she have with our children? We hope to find out as Nombkhubulwane spends the final two weeks of her Chicago visit at the entrance to the Field Museum. Her presence helps publicize the Field Museum’s current exhibition, Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice Age.

Children from all over Chicago have the opportunity to engage with the elephant and discover her role in fostering a greater understanding of sustainability as well as our role and context in the overall environment.

Nomkhubulwane to NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2010

VIDEO: Hear from creator and sculptor Andries Botha, as he talks about Nomkhubulwane’s voyage to NeoCon10 in Chicago

In partnership with The Human Elephant Foundation, we’re bringing Nomkhubulwane (pronounced Nom-koo-bull-wah’-nee) to NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2010.

Named for the Zulu goddess regarded as Mother Earth, Nomkhubulwane symbolizes our commitment to sustainability and talking about oil, the proverbial elephant in the room.

The Human Elephant Foundation is a worldwide organization focusing on creating a more sustainable world.

And now, you can help the foundation accomplish its goal of making our World a better place to live in.

NeoCon attendees, as well as anyone in Chicago, can help us donate money to The Human Elephant Foundation. All you have to do is visit Nomkhubulwane, take a picture and tell us about it. When you do, we’ll donate $1 to the foundation.

Here’s how it works:

1. Stop by and see Nomkhubulwane June 14-16. She’ll be standing at the front door of the Merchandise Mart, facing the Chicago River.

2. Take a photo of you standing with Nomkhubulwane.

3. Share the photo on Twitter using the #InterfaceFLOR hashtag, or on Facebook by tagging @InterfaceFLOR.

4. For every tweet or Facebook post that follows steps 1-3, we’ll donate $1 to The Human Elephant Foundation.

So set your reminders to get out there and take photos of Nomkhubulwane at NeoCon or elsewhere in Chicago, June 14-16. We look forward to having your help in giving The Human Elephant Foundation a hand!
